Alcester & Ragley 1st (105-4) beat Catherine de Barnes (134 all out) by 6 wickets
Ragley maintained their push for promotion by beating the bottom of the table side by 6 wickets at Ragley Hall. Upon winning a vital toss Ragley inserted Catney into bat first on what looked a tricky track to bat on after the rain that had fallen in the previous few days.
Catney had moved to 20 without loss before they lost their 1st wicket as Partington was lbw to Reader for 1. This wicket seemed to kick start Ragley into lift as Reader claimed 2 further wickets in his next over including captain Haywood for 16 who fell to an excellent catch in the gully by Adam Peachey. This left the score at 31-3 after 10 overs. Marc Woolley then came on to replace Sam Westwood who had had a quiet spell by his standards and he took a wicket in his 2nd over as he had Bryant lbw for 3. Reader then finished his 10 over spell in style by claiming his 4 wicket as C Lewis was well caught at mid off by Ricky Allan who had given the wicket keeping duties up for the day due to an injured hand! Reader finished with excellent figures of 4-30 from his 10 overs to put Ragley in the driving seat as Catney limped to 54-5 from 20 overs. Catney then had their only real partnership of the match as M Lewis and Goodman both scored 25, before Goodman was out to a smart catch by replacement wicket keeper Adam Warbrick standing up to the bowling of Tom Morris. Lewis scored a few more vital runs for Catney before he was bowled by Steve Capron, and the innings was wrapped up after a smart piece of work by Adam Devey who ran out the non striker as he failed to regain his ground after backing up too far. Catney all out for 134 in 42 overs, Woolley finished with economical figures of 2-13 and Capron also chipped in with 2-29.
This left Ragley to get 135 in 48 overs, they got off to a bad start as Ben Lee was out for 1, hitting a long hop straight to square leg in the 1st over, and he was soon followed by Warbrick for 5, although the score at this time was 32-2 as Catney conceded 15 extras in the first 5 overs. Allan and Lewis Clark progressed the score onto 41-2 from 7 overs before the heavens opened up. Good work by the ground staff got the ground covered and play was able to start again as soon as the rain stopped after 45 minutes or so. The rain played into Ragley’s hands as they now had a reduced target of 105 to win in 38 overs. Allan carried on from where he had left off in the previous game as he looked in excellent touch and was very unlucky to be given out caught behind from the bowling of M Lewis for 27, including 2 excellent pull shots for 6. Clark was joined by Adam Peachey who endured a torrid early spell from the bowling of C Lewis but he weathered the storm and was soon scoring in his usual free manner, although 16 of these were scored over the wicket keepers head! Clark perished for a battling 13 with only 12 runs needed for victory as he was lbw to Turner. Adam Devey and Peachey combined to knock the final few runs off with Devey hitting the winning single with 17 overs left. Peachey had eased his team home for the 3rd time in 4 matches as he finished on 35 not out.
