Alcester & Ragley 1st (309-4) beat Warwick County Council Staff (98 all out) by 211 runs |
|
Ragley secured the important victory that guaranteed they were not relegated with a massive 211 run win over already relegated Warwick CC staff. After losing the toss and being put into bat Ragley soon made hay at Raglye Park. Opener Simon Sloan was in impressive form early on as he raced to 31 including a towering straight 6 before he was caught at midwicket from the bowling of Matt Edwards. The score at this stage was 77 with fellow opener Lee only on 10 and extras 36 after only 11 overs of play. Further generosity from the bowlers lifted the score to 125 before Ragley suffered their only moment of inconvenience as Duncan Gardner took 2 wickets in 2 balls, bowling Ricky Allan for 9 and having Adam Warbrick lbw first ball. Lee was joined by Lewis Clark and the scoring rate was increased further still as both batsmen looked to cut loose. Lee was run out for 45 with the score at 190 but that was the end of the wickets. Clark and Adam Peachey added 119 further runs in the final 12 overs. Clark smashed 8 fours and 8 sixes in recording his maiden league century which he bought up in the 44th over, he went on to finish on 104 not out and completely took the game away from Warks CC Staff who contributed to their own downfall by conceding 75 extras in the final total. Adam Peachey finished on 31 not out including one six as he looked to rotate the strike to give Clark the bowling which he took full advantage of. Ragley finished on a mammoth 309-4 in their 45 overs. Webster for Warks was the only bowler who finished with any creditability as he bowled his 10 overs for just 23 runs, and Gardner finished with a respectable 2-34. In reply Warks CC staff offered no real resistance and were never in the game as they slumped to 30-5 after just 12 overs. All the wickets were bowled with Steve Capron taking 4 of the first 5 wickets to fall and the other opening bowler Julian Reader the other. Capron was unlucky not to collect 5 in his spell but at this stage Reader took over and had captain Keith Edwards smartly stumped by Allan for 18 which started another slump as Reader bowled the next 3 batsmen in his next 2 overs to claim his first 5 wicket haul of the season as he claimed an excellent 5-36 from his 10 overs. The score at this stage was only 71-9 and the best partnership of the innings then took place as Hewitt tried his luck and slapped 20 before he was bowled by Warbrick to leave Warks all out for 98 in the 23rd over. Capron finished with superb figures also of 4-23 as the opening bowlers ended the game with 9 wickets between them. Ragley managed to lift themselves up to a final position of 5th in the table after this victory which was just reward to a fine end to the season when they only lost 1 of their last 6 games. |
